Step-by-Step Guide to Enrolling in EDGAR Next

Last updated: 4/3/25

Enrollment in the SEC’s new EDGAR Next system is required for all filers by September 12, 2025. Whether you file directly or through a service provider, enrollment is necessary to retain access and continue making submissions.

This step-by-step guide walks you through the EDGAR Next enrollment process, including everything you need to gather, configure, and complete.

Who Needs to Enroll?

If you are responsible for submitting filings through EDGAR—or represent someone who is—you must enroll in EDGAR Next. This includes:

  • Public companies

  • Investment advisers and funds

  • Individuals who file beneficial ownership reports

  • Law firms, compliance consultants, and filing agents managing client filings

Enrollment is required whether you plan to file directly or authorize a third party to do so.

Before You Begin: What You’ll Need

To complete enrollment, gather the following:

  • CIK (Central Index Key): A unique identifier assigned by the SEC to each filer.

  • CCC (CIK Confirmation Code): A confidential code used to authorize EDGAR submissions.

  • Passphrase: A confidential code used to authenticate EDGAR enrollment and certain account actions. Reset here (SEC PDF)

  • Primary EDGAR Contact information: Name, phone, and email.

  • Two Account Administrators: Each must have a Login.gov account (unless the filer is an individual or a single-member entity).

  • Annual confirmation quarter: You will select a quarter for verifying your EDGAR account each year.

Step-by-Step Enrollment Process

Step 1: Set Up Login.gov Accounts

Each Account Administrator must create a Login.gov account with multifactor authentication. The email address used must match the one provided during enrollment.

Create a Login.gov account

For a visual walkthrough, see the SEC’s instructional video on setting up Login.gov.

Step 2: Access the EDGAR Filer Dashboard

Log in at https://www.filermanagement.edgarfiling.sec.gov/ using your Login.gov credentials to access the new EDGAR Next dashboard.

Step 3: Select “Enroll in EDGAR Next”

From your dashboard, locate the enrollment option and select “Enroll in EDGAR Next” next to the applicable CIK. You will be asked to:

  • Provide your CIK, CCC, and passphrase

  • Confirm or update the filer’s contact and address information

  • Select a confirmation quarter for annual review

  • Provide details for two Account Administrators (see Step 4)

Step 4: Designate Account Administrators

Each filer must designate two individual Account Administrators, unless the filer is an individual or a single-member company. However, the SEC recommends designating two administrators in all cases to avoid potential access issues.

For each Account Administrator, provide:

  • Full name

  • Email address (must match their Login.gov email)

  • Phone number

  • Business address

  • Country code (e.g., US)

Step 5: Review and Submit

Carefully review the information provided. Once confirmed, submit the enrollment. A confirmation message will appear on screen, and Account Administrators will receive an email and dashboard notification once enrollment is complete.

After Enrollment: Designate Delegated Entities

If you use a filing agent like ACN Solutions, you must manually designate them as a Delegated Entity after enrollment. This step authorizes third parties to file on your behalf.

How to Add a Delegated Entity:

  1. Log in to https://www.filermanagement.edgarfiling.sec.gov/

  2. Go to your Filer Dashboard

  3. Under “My Accounts,” select the appropriate CIK

  4. Click “Manage Delegations and User Groups”

  5. Choose “Add Delegation”

  6. Enter the filing agent’s CIK

  7. Click “Verify CIK,” then “Delegate”

  8. Your agent will receive a notification to accept the delegation.
